These three pen-and-ink drawings, her first published illustrations,appeared in the Philadelphia Press on November 27, 1895.
1898
In 1898, Ellen B. Thompson had illustrations published in Twixt You and Me by Grace LeBaron (Little, Brown, and Company). Katharine Pyle created pen-and-ink head and tail pieces for each chapter.

1899
A number of Howard Pyle's pupils contributed illustration to Paul Leicester Ford's Janice Meredith: A Story of the America Revolution, which was first published as a serial in Collier's Weekly and then as a two-volume set by Dodd, Mead, and Company. Not all of Ellen Thompson's illustrations for this serial are shown below.
These portraits appeared in the December 1899 issue of McClure's magazine in the article, "The Man for the Hour." Howard Pyle is the only attributed illustrator for this article, but Ellen Thompson created these portraits of John Laurens and the Comte de Grasse.
1890s Unpublished
This study was exhibited (need details) in 1899. It and a number of other studies were for a larger tableau entitled "The Knife Grinder." The location of the final piece is unknown.
This landscape, "The Sexton House," is the only known EBTP landscape. The Sexton House still stands today on US Route 1 in Chadds Ford, not far from where Howard Pyle held his summer school.
